Getting to Know UsSamish Island Memorial Chapel is
an evangelical non-denominational Christian church, solely owned by the members of its congregation.
Our makeup as a church body consists of mature local residents
with a wide variety of occupations, talents, and interests. We have a commitment to strong Bible study and teaching, coupled with a heart for missions. Our vision as a church includes seeking to reach the residents on our island with the Gospel of Jesus' saving grace and new life.
Our church is centrally located on Samish Island which lies northwest from the cities of Burlington and Mt. Vernon. The location of the church is such that most people do not have to drive over three miles to attend. The actual church building dates back to the 1920's and has been updated throughout the years with two modules added in the 1980's. |
EXALTATION
As the
people of God, we are called to worship Him “in spirit and truth” (John 4:24). This consists
of proclaiming with one voice the wondrous nature of our God (in accordance
with how He has explicitly revealed Himself to us in His Word) and the incomparable
qualities of His redeeming work of creation through Christ. This
includes “singing psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Col 3:16b). Nevertheless, it is foundational to our divine design as
created beings that we glorify our Creator. We seek to do so by always remaining grateful for what God has accomplished
through His Son on our behalf.

EDIFICATIONOne
of the primary reasons that we come together each and every Lord’s Day is so
that we might be thoroughly equipped “for the
work of ministry”, thus becoming “built up” as the body of Christ (Eph 4:11-16). This includes regular study and application of
God’s Word, both corporately and privately. Such activities and
disciplines are essential for the believer and are in accordance with the
indwelling Spirit’s outworking of Paul’s admonition to “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one
another in all wisdom…” (Col 3:16a). Through “speaking the truth in love” to one another (v.15), we will continue to mature in our faith by learning to take
Christ at His word in ever-deepening ways.

EVANGELISMWe regularly gather as a church so that we
might be better prepared for our “ministry
of reconciliation” as God’s ambassadors in the world (2 Cor 5:18-20). At
the conclusion of every church service, we are once again being sent back into
the world as both “salt” and “light”
(Matt 5:13-16), in so far as we are
carrying forth the Gospel of God’s grace expressed through His Son. We desire to see others come to Christ because
that is what He Himself desires (Matt 11:28). Our outreach as the Body of Christ is
intended for the further establishment of God’s in-breaking Kingdom, which
includes His reign in the hearts and lives of all who have been chosen by Him (Eph
1:11-12).
